Off-Season Social Media Matters Most

When the sessions end and the laughter fades, it can feel like your camp’s social media should take a backseat, too. But the truth is, your off-season content is more important than your summer content. Remember, social media helps to keep your current families engaged, reminds alumni why they love camp, and this helps potential parents see the heart behind your camp, not just the programs you offer.


Here’s the good news: you don’t need to post every day to stay relevant. In fact, quality is more important than quantity. Instead of scrambling to fill your feed, focus on creating purposeful content that aligns with your camp’s brand and messaging. Ask yourself: does this post showcase our values? Does it tell a story only our camp can tell? If you can answer yes to both of those questions, post away! If the answers are no, try to rework your posts to help reflect your camp in a more unique way.


So what do you post when camp isn’t happening? We have some topics for you that are easy to manage and creative enough to capture your audience: 


  1. Tell your Why! It’s important to use these platforms to showcase your values and unique attributes. Educate potential families so they clearly understand what you do, while also showing them what makes you stand out. 

  2. Throwbacks! Footage from summers past can show real campers' smiles, camp traditions, and activities.

  3. Behind the Scenes Fun! Is your team working on anything unique and exciting? Show off your plans and facility upgrades.

  4. Community Involvement! Feature alumni, staff/camper stories, and camper achievements even if they're happening outside of camp. It will show how close your community is and that these relationships extend beyond camp.

  5. Countdowns or Teasers! You can build on excitement for registration, or countdown to special events or activities campers will be able to look forward to when they return.


The key is consistency. Pick a posting rhythm you can realistically maintain, even if it’s once a week. Remember, quality over quantity! Create a content calendar now with weekly themes, ideas, and posts so you’re not scrambling later. 


Off-season posting doesn’t have to feel like a chore. With a little planning and a focus on storytelling, your camp can stay front and center all year long.
